Hello, everyone and welcome to today's lesson called Surprise, with me, Miss Jadoon.

Today, we'll be talking about surprises and secrets.

Are you ready? Lets go.

In this lesson, you will need an exercise book or paper, and a pencil.

Pause the video while you go and collect these things.

We're going to start off by looking at, what is a secret? Then, what is a nice surprise? Next, we're going to look at safe and unsafe secrets.

And finally, you're going to plan a nice surprise.

So what is a secret? Do you have secrets? Who do you show your secrets with? Your family, your friends, maybe someone you trust? Now, secrets can be very special and they can also be very private.

Let's explore.

A secret is something you keep hidden.

Something that is not known by others.

Something that is not seen by others.

Only shared with people you trust.

Something you want to keep private.

Many characters keep secrets in books and stories.

Let's have a think about some of them.

In Cinderella, Cinderella kept it a secret from her stepmother and her stepsisters that she went to the ball, and that was a big secret she kept all to herself.

Then, you have Hansel and Gretel.

And in Hansel and Gretel, the witch doesn't tell the children that she's a witch when she first lets them into her house.

Her house is covered in candy at first, and the children go in, thinking it's a safe place to be.

In some versions, the house is a boot and they go into the boot.

They think it's a magical place to be in, that they'll get sweets and treats inside because the witch keeps it a secret that she really comes to eat them.

Aladdin's lamp is also another secret in, in a story.

Aladdin keeps his lamp a secret from Jafar until Jafar realises what he's up to.

And then, in snow white, you have the evil stepmother, the evil queen actually.

She keeps it a secret from snow white that the poisonous apple she's about to give her is going to kill her.

So, can you think of any of the stories where characters have kept secrets from other characters? What is a surprise? Has anybody ever surprised you before? Have you surprised anybody before? Surprises can be fun.

Let's find out some more about them.

A surprise is something unexpected, that can astonish you, it should be something that is fun and everybody should know about it soon.

So you can't keep a surprise hidden for a very, very long time, it's generally something that everybody finds out about quite soon.

Surprises can shock you, they can be big or small, and they can be known by many people or a few.

Let's play a game.

Secret or surprise? I'm going to name some events.

I want you to tell me if it should be kept a secret, or if it should be a surprise.

A birthday party.

A password.

A diary.

A present.

An embarrassing mistake.

A den.

Let's have a look.

A birthday party is a surprise.

A password is a secret.

A diary is a secret.

A present is a surprise.

An embarrassing mistake should always be kept a secret.

A den, that should be kept a secret too.

Now we're going to look at safe and unsafe secrets.

Some secrets can be safe to keep, and we look after those secrets for a long time.

These secrets don't necessarily make us worry or make us feel anxious, they're just things we keep private.

All of the secrets can be unsafe secrets.

These secrets may make us feel worried, anxious, sad, lonely, and these are not good secrets to keep.

These are secrets we should be sharing with either our family or somebody we trust.

Let's explore this further.

Now we're going to look at the difference between safe and unsafe secrets.

Safe secrets can be fun, they may involve a surprise or a gift for someone.

Your parent or carer may say, "Don't tell your brother what we've got him for his birthday!" or "No telling Grandad about the surprise trip to the beach!" Unsafe secrets on the other hand can make you feel sad, uncomfortable, lonely, angry, anxious, or worried.

This can upset you, so it is always a good idea to share these secrets with a trusted adult.

You will not get into trouble for it.

Unsafe secrets can be dangerous because sometimes people ask kids to keep secrets because they're doing bad things.

It is always better to share these secrets with someone who makes you feel safe and happy.

And now for the exciting bit.

Now, you're going to plan a nice surprise.

A surprise for somebody special.

It could be a family member, a friend, somebody who's important to you.

Are you ready? Let's go.

Plan a nice surprise for somebody in your household or for one of your friends.

Okay, so you've decided you're going to surprise someone.

Great, let's get started.

Super excited about it.

So, you've got to start off by thinking of some surprises.

How do you want to surprise this special someone? You could do it by writing them a special note, making them a homemade card, making a snack, tidying their room, or maybe even doing one of their chores.

I would love that, I would love it if somebody did one of my chores.

Next, share the surprise with someone who can help you.

Get an adult or a sibling involved, or even a friend, someone who could help to set the surprise up.

Two heads are always better than one.

So yeah, somebody else can help if you let them know about it.

And then, surprise! it's time for the big moment.

Be patient and wait for it, don't surprise before the surprise, so wait until the right moment and then enjoy.
