In this unit, in the context of the classroom, pupils learn first, second and third person singular forms of the verb 'estar' and singular regular adjective agreement. They use statements, intonation and information questions with ' ¿cómo?' and '¿dónde?' to communicate how and where people are.

Me and others: 'estar' for location and state

This unit introduces singular persons of ‘ser’, a second verb to be, being for permanent traits. Pupils use this verb to describe what they are like generally, and to say where they are from.  They also learn to say what day of the week it is using ‘es’, the third person singular of ‘ser’.

Me and others: 'ser' for traits

In this unit, in the context of talking about belongings, pupils learn that nouns have grammatical gender and that this determines the word for a/an. They learn to use the first, second and third person forms of the verb ‘tener’ and that most adjectives come after the noun.

What I and others have: 'tener' and singular nouns 

This unit introduces infinitives and singular persons of -ar regular verbs. Pupils use these verbs in the context of in class and outdoor activities to ask and answer about what they and others do. Pupils also learn singular definite articles ‘el’ and ‘la’ meaning ‘the’.

What I and others do: singular regular verbs in the present 

In this unit pupils learn the numbers 1-12. They learn to add -s to form plural nouns for all nouns ending in a vowel. Pupils learn that the irregular verb form ‘hay’ means ‘there is’ and ‘there are’ and combine this with noun knowledge to ask and answer about how many of each item there are.
