    Welcome to our first lesson on our new unit called the Oceans and Seas. Today, we will be learning about the 5 oceans on our earth and the location of them in relation to the 7 continents. We will be ordering them in size and discussing why the oceans are always in motion. Let's get started!

    In today's lesson we will be learning about all the wonderful animals which live in our oceans. We will be discussing different types of habitats that they live in. There are hundreds and thousands of different animals, from mammals who need oxygen to breathe, to animals like fish who have gills to help them breathe underwater. There are even animals called molluscs, some can create their own light in the depths of the ocean where it's dark. Let's get started!

    In this lesson, we are going to be comparing the oceans surrounding the North Pole and the Equator. First we will be focusing on what the equator is. We will be learning about some animals which are able to survive in the cold waters of the Arctic, where many other living things cannot.

We will start by identifying what human activity is and what types of things we are doing which are causing damage to our oceans. We will finish the lesson by looking at what damage we can already see in our oceans.

We will be looking at initiatives that the government has introduced in the United Kingdom to make a difference to plastic waste. Then we will be looking at what other people are doing around the world to protect our oceans and marine life.

    During this lesson, I am going to be telling you about how we can protect our oceans. Lots of our marine animals are under threat because of our human activity. I will be reading you a story about a curious whale who wants to cook a stew for his friend. But the ingredients he uses are not what we expect! We will be talking about lots of things we can do to protect this important environment.
