In this lesson, we will be learning about waterproof materials. We will test a variety of household materials and compare how absorbent each of them is. You will need a piece of paper and a pencil to complete today's lesson. For our experiment, if you would like to take part, you will need: twigs or a piece of wood, a plastic bag or cup, a glass cup, cardboard or paper, and a pair of socks or piece of fabric. If you do not have these materials, you can watch the lesson and record your observations of the experiment.

In this lesson, we will be discussing different materials and their properties. We will be analysing different objects and identifying the material's properties. We will be building and creating mini walls and using them in our experiment in the next lesson, 'Is the Wall I've Built Waterproof?'. If you would like to take part in this lesson you can choose to build all or 1 wall. You will need either playdough, hay or straw, twigs or lolly sticks, sugar cubes, plastic bricks, some glue or some sticky tape. If you do not have these things, don't worry because I will be conducting the experiment for you to see.

Which materials can withstand strong winds?

    This lesson is currently unavailable.

In this lesson, we will be investigating which materials can be blown down by creating our own wind using a hairdryer. We will be experimenting with different types of materials which have different weights. We will be using our structures from the previous lesson, 'Which materials can withstand strong winds?' to experiment with. If you do not have these things, you can watch me model this experiment.

In this lesson, we will be learning about what a mixture is. We will be exploring different substances to create different mixtures. We will then be investigating what is created when we mix soap and water together. There will also be an investigation which you can either watch or join in with if you ask permission from your parent or carer. You will need soap, water and a towel or cloth for the investigation.
