Hi everyone, my name is Miss Sabzvari and I'm really excited that you decided to join me today for our maths lesson.

The unit that we're studying is time.

In the previous lesson, we focused on identifying quarter to on an analogue clock.

In today's lesson, we will focus on identifying quarter past and quarter to on an analogue clock.

So when you're ready, let's begin.

Let's have a look at today's lesson agenda.

First, we'll begin by identifying quarter to and quarter past.

Then we'll move on to a talk task.

After that we'll practise writing quarter to and quarter past and finally, you will complete your independent task.

And before we begin today's lesson, you will need the following items. You will need something to write with and something to write on.

You will need a clock, but don't worry if you don't have one.

And finally, you will need a ruler.

So please pause the video now and get the items that you need.

Identifying quarter to and quarter past the hour.

I know the clock is showing half past three because the minute hand is pointing to 30 on the minute scale.

And the hour hand is just past three, moving towards four on the hour scale.

So the clock is showing quarter past three.

We know this because the minute hand is pointing to 15 on the minute scale.

Let's check 5, 10, 15.

The clock is showing quarter to six.

Okay, because it's in 15 minutes in a quarter of an hour, the minute hand will reach o'clock.

Okay.

So we know that it's quarter to because the minute hand is pointing to 45 minutes on the minute scale.

Let's check together, count with me.

Five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45.

Great job.

And the hour hand is just before reaching six, because we know that in 15 minutes it's going to be six o'clock.

So it's very close to reaching six, it's just before six.

So the clock is showing quarter to seven and we know this because the minute hand is pointing to 45 on the minute scale.

And the hour hand is just before seven.

So it haven't reached seven quite yet.

So moving onto a talk task.

The first thing I would like you to do is to draw these clocks.

Do that now and then I want to explain what I would like you to do.

Good job.

What I would like you to do is to draw the hands on the clocks, for the times are shown, okay.

So the first clock should show quarter to eight, then quarter past eight, next half past seven, and finally quarter past seven.

Pause the video now and complete your task.

Then we'll go through the answers together.

Let's have a look at the answers.

So quarter to eight.

I know that this clock is showing quarter to eight, because my minute hand is pointing to 45 minutes on the minute scale.

And my hour hand is just before reaching eight on the hour scale.

Quarter past eight.

Again, I can see that my minute hand is pointing to 15 on the minute scale.

And the hour hand this time is just past eight because it is quarter past eight.

So the hour hand is going to be past or slightly past eight.

Great job.

The next clock is showing half past seven.

The minute hand is pointing to 30 on the minute scale.

So let's check together five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30.

And the hour hand is in between seven and eight.

So it hasn't reached eight yet, but it's getting there.

Great job.

And the last clock should be showing quarter past seven.

Again, the minute hand is pointing to 15 on the minute scale.

And the hour hand is just past seven.

Good work if you go all of that correct.

Writing quarter past and quarter to.

So before we move on, what I would like you to do is to write down quarter past on your piece of paper.

And then I would like you to write quarter to on your piece of paper, do that now.

Great, so let's have a look at the clocks on the screen.

The first clock is showing, tell your screen.

That's right, four o'clock and this is how we write four o'clock.

The next clock is showing, tell your screen.

Good job, half past four.

Okay.

So, and this is how we write half past four.

And the third clock is showing? What we'd like you to do is to create it on your clock.

If you don't have one that's okay.

Just say the time and then I want you to write it down in a paper.

Do that now.

Brilliant job.

So we can see that it's quarter past four because the minute hand is on 15 on the minute scale, and the hour hand is just past four, quarter past four.

Make sure you tick and fix as we go along.

If you've got that correct, well done.

If you didn't have a practise of writing quarter past four down three times and then we'll move on.

Great, so let's have a look at the clocks on our screen.

This clock is showing, tell your screen, good job, five o'clock.

And this is how we write five o'clock.

This clock is showing half past five.

Great.

And the third clock is showing? What I would like you to do is to create on your clock and then to write in words on your piece of paper.

Do that now.

Great job.

So the third clock showing quarter past five and we know this because the minute hand is on 15 on the minute scale and the hour hand is just past five so it's quarter past.

So let's have a look at the clocks in this screen.

The first thing I would like you to do is to create the time on your clock and then to write down what the clock is showing.

Do that now.

Let's have a look at the answers.

So we can see that the first clock is showing quarter to six because the minute hand is pointing to 45 on the minute scale and the hour hand is just before six.

The second clock is showing quarter past six because the minute hand is pointing to 15 on the minute scale and the hour hand is pointing to just after six on the hour scale.

Great job.

And finally quarter to seven.

We can see that the minute hand is pointing to 45 on the minute scale and the hour hand is just before reaching seven.

Moving on to your independent task.

What I would like you to do is if you have a clock, I would like you to show the time on your clock first before writing the time shown in words, okay.

And if you don't have a clock that's okay.

Just practise writing the time shown in words.

Then we'll go through the answers together.

Great.

So let's have a look at the answers.

The first clock is showing quarter past four.

So tick and fix as we're going along.

I know that the first clock is showing quarter past four because the minute hands is pointing to 15 on the minute scale and the hour hand is just the past four.

The second clock is showing half past four, well done if you've got that correct.

Again, I know that this clock is showing half past four because the minute hand is pointing to 30 on the minute scale and the hour hand is pointing to just after four.

And finally, the third clock is showing quarter past nine and I know that this is correct because the minute hand is pointing to 15 on the minute scale and the hour hand is pointing to just after nine.
