Hi, everyone, I'm Miss Boyd, your music teacher, and today we're learning about which instruments make low pitched sounds.

In this lesson, we'll be listening out for lots of low pitched sounds.

We'll be thinking about which instruments make a low sound and, of course, we'll be singing in our low pitched voices.

In this lesson, you'll need three things, your singing voice, your bodies and your thinking brain.

But before we get started, should we sing a song to say hello? ♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Hello, hello, it's good to see you ♪ ♪ Hello, hello, it's good to see you ♪ ♪ I must say, you've made my day ♪ ♪ Hello, hello, hello ♪ For our first learning activity today, we are going to play, what can you hear? We're going to listen to three different instruments, and they are all designed to make really low pitched sounds.

I'm going to play them, we'll have a listen, and I want you to guess what instruments they are.

Are you ready? Listening ears on.

That was the timpani.

The timpani is a really, really big percussive instrument that plays in an orchestra, and it's known for creating really low sounds.

Let's have a listen again.

Right.

Let's have a listen to our second instrument.

Do you know what that is? Shall we have a listen again? That was the bassoon.

The bassoon is part of the woodwind family and it plays the most gorgeous, low pitched sounds.

Right.

Let's listen to our third instrument.

That was a bass guitar.

Nice and low.

Great listening, guys.

For our second learning activity today, I'm going to send you on a bit of an adventure.

I'd like you to pause this video in a moment and have a walk around your home, listening out for any low pitched sounds.

It could come from a person or an object, but have a listen.

What can you hear that is low pitched? Off you go.

Were you able to find some low pitched sounds around your home? Yeah? What did you find? Awesome.

I had a listen around my home, too.

Do you want to hear what I found? There were lots of people in my living room having a good conversation, and I could hear loads of people talking really low.

Here's the next thing I heard.

Yeah, I heard a Hoover.

It was really low.

And the other thing I heard.

That's right.

I heard the door close.

Right, now let's get on to our third learning activity.

For this activity, we are going to use our singing voices.

We're going to sing a song that all know, "Old Macdonald had a farm".

But today is a bit of a different day.

At the farm, we can only hear animals that make low pitched sounds.

Can you think which animals we may hear? Let's find out.

♪ Off we go ♪ ♪ Old Macdonald had a farm ♪ ♪ Ee-i-ee-i-o ♪ ♪ And on that farm he had a ♪ He had a cow.

I wonder what other animals we can hear at the farm.

Some dogs do make really low sounds, don't they? Can I hear your woof again? Excellent.

Can you think of any more animals with low pitched sounds? Well, that was fun, wasn't it? I think we've got time for just one more game.

Before we go, I want to see if you really, really know the difference between your high pitches and your low pitches.

So we're going to play a singing game called, Don't sing this one back! Whenever I go like this, I'm going to sing a tune, and whenever I go like that, I'd like you to copy me.

But, if I sing in a high pitched note, I don't want you to sing it back.

I want you to cover your mouth.

I only want to hear you singing with your low pitched voice today.

So no singing high, okay? Let's have a go.
