Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Embellishment can be added to a weaving using buttons, beads, stitch and fabric.
  2. Know that evaluating artwork is an important part of the design process.
  3. Know how to offer feedback to other artists, to help them improve over time.

Keywords

  • Embellish - to add extra details or decorations to a textile

  • Evaluate - when we think about our artwork to understand how good it is and how we could make it better

  • Feedback - sharing your ideas about other people’s artwork

Common misconception

Evaluating is only saying what you like or dislike

Remind pupils that evaluation is more than just saying what we like or dislike about an artwork. It should help an artist improve their work over time.

Pupils might find it useful to have threads and yarn pre-cut into lengths to help them complete the sewing element. If being completed in the Autumn term, pupils could complete the embelishment in guided groups with adult support.
