Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. When measuring paper and board rulers, set squares and protractors are used.
  2. When marking out paper and board orthographic projections can be used.
  3. Using the correct tools and equipment is important to ensure accuracy when marking out.

Keywords

  • Marking out - the process of measuring and drawing on a material before manufacture

  • Accurate - correct and precise

  • Measuring - determining the size of an object using a tool

Common misconception

Any marking tool will work on any material.

Using the wrong tool (e.g a pencil on metal) can result in unclear or inaccurate marks. Different materials require specific marking tools, such as pencils for paper and boards and marking knives for wood.
