Keywords
Capital letter - the upper case formation of a letter
Ascender line - the line above the x-height line which most letters with ascenders reach up to
Baseline - the tramline that most letters sit on
Anti-clockwise - moving or going in the opposite direction of a clock's hands
Continuous movement - the smooth movement made when writing without lifting the pencil from the paper
Common misconception
Children may revert to forming the letters between the baseline and the x-height line.
This is a good opportunity to show the children how supportive the tramlines are. Remind them to ensure all of their capital letters are sitting on the baseline, reaching up to the ascender line and are straight.
