Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Sequencing means putting the events in the right order so they make sense.
  2. ‘Otherwise’ is an animation which follows Anders, a red chameleon, who is different to the others.
  3. Retell means to summarise a story in your own words.
  4. Fronted adverbials of time tell the reader when the events in the sentence took place.

Keywords

  • Sequence - putting things in a specific order

  • Retell - to summarise a story in our own words

  • Fronted adverbial of time - a sentence starter that tells the reader when something happens

Common misconception

Pupils may find it hard to sequence all the stills from memory.

Allow pupils to watch the animation a few times, so that the story is clear in their heads. Pupils could work in pairs or small groups to sequence the images at their tables on sugar paper.

You may wish to play some drama activities where the pupils act out the story to check their knowledge.
