Key learning points
- Things you believe are called your opinions.
- People can agree or disagree with an opinion.
- Using the word 'because' will allow you to explain why you agree or disagree with an opinion.
- Speaking in full sentences helps the listener understand what is being said.
- Successful listening includes looking at the person speaking and paying close attention.
Keywords
Opinion - what a person thinks or believes
Agree - to feel the same way about something
Disagree - to feel differently about something
Common misconception
In Learning Cycle 2, pupils might think you are asking them if they agree, rather than asking them to identify who agrees out of the 3 characters - Aisha, Sofia and Alex.
Read each of the opinions in the speech bubbles out and ask the pupils who agrees that the class should get a pet.
Use the gesture of pulling your two hands apart (in a stretching motion) to remind pupils to answer questions in a full sentence using the word 'because' to give a reason for their opinion. This will prompt them non-verbally during talk tasks.
