- When answering questions, the response should be about the question.
- Speaking in full sentences helps the listener understand what is being said.

Common misconception
Pupils will often answer questions with one word answers.
Model to pupils speaking in full sentences and always provide speaking frames (this can be verbally) to support pupils answering in full sentences.
You may wish to have a visual poster with images which represent the 'rules for talk' and 'active listening' displayed in your classroom.
