- The beginning of a story introduces the main characters, setting and plot
- Word banks can be used to find key vocabulary or words that may be difficult to spell, such as 'cottage' or 'magical'
- Rehearsing a sentence out loud before writing it helps us to remember it
- Reading a sentence back after writing helps to check it makes sense

Common misconception
Children may struggle to generate individual sentences per event.
Refer to the story mountain that the children made in a previous lesson and make that available. When retelling and reading the story, refer back to the model story mountain. Explain that each picture is one sentence.
