- Readers can form personal reflections about texts by engaging with the words and illustrations in a meaningful way.
- A prediction can be based on the words and illustrations in the text or a reader's own personal experience.
Keywords
Peritext - The peritext is the elements around a book, including its cover, title and blurb.
Blurb - A blurb is a short promotional description of a text, located on the back cover.
Endpapers - Endpapers are usually the first and last parts of the interior of the book to be seen when the book is opened or closed.
Title page - The title page is a page displaying the text title, author and publisher. It is sometimes accompanied by an illustration.
Prediction - A prediction is an educated guess, based on evidence in the text or prior knowledge.
Common misconception
Pupils may not be used to analysing picturebook texts in finer detail.
Adults could model text marking - asking questions and interrogating certain pages. Thoughts could be verbalised to model possible processes that you would encourage the pupils to use.
