  • Letter sting - a group of letters that are written together in a word

  • Root word - the base word from which other words are formed often by adding prefixes or suffixes

Common misconception

When starting a strategy, pupils may have copied the spelling down incorrectly.

Model the process of looking at it, considering what's difficult about the spelling and thinking about it. Then, model copying it for the first time, carefully checking each letter and verbalising what you notice.
