- There are no spelling rules for homophones so we must learn them by sight.

Common misconception
Homophones sound the same so pupils may rely on previous spelling rules and so, spell them the same.
Spend time showing each word in a sentence, use images to support understanding and make sure each homophone is practised using a strategy.
Supplement lessons with images for each homophone to help solidify understanding as well as lots of opportunities to share their own sentences to check understanding.
