Common misconception
Pupils may not know or understand the meaning of many words encountered in the lesson.
Put all unfamiliar vocabulary into simple sentences to expose children to the meaning. Make links to root words where possible.
You can set the words for children to practise independently based on your knowledge or allow them to select themselves. Help them to identify independent practice strategies which are efficient and effective.
