Common misconception

Pupils may find it difficult to use the word ‘howl’ in a sentence.

Explain that as this word is a verb, we can change the tense to make it fit with our sentence. ‘Howled’ or ‘howling’ are alternatives.

Ensure pupils understand that each ‘wind' word has a different word class and therefore will be used differently. The synonyms and word pairs will help distinguish this. For example, ‘if this word is noun, what will its synonyms/ word pairs be?'
