Key learning points

  1. Vowels [a] [o] [i] [o] [u] are pronounced differently in French and English.
  2. 'Voici' means 'this is or 'here is'. It can be used to introduce somebody.
  3. 'Je suis', 'I am', can be used to introduce myself, and 'elle, il est', 'she, he is', to introduce others.
  4. Adjectives often add -e in the feminine form to describe a girl or woman. This is adjective agreement.

Keywords

  • Être - French verb meaning to 'be, being'

  • Je suis - from the verb 'être', meaning 'I am'

  • Il, elle est - from the verb 'être', meaning 'he, she is'

  • Adjective agreement - a change in adjective ending, for example, adding an -e to describe a woman or a girl

Common misconception
