Key learning points

  1. The sound symbol correspondence [ou] sounds like the 'ou' in 'nous', meaning 'we in French.
  2. The verb 'aller' means to go, going. 'Je vais' is I go, I am going, 'il,elle va' is he, she goes, is going.
  3. The 's' in 'vais' is usually a SFC, but when it is followed by a vowel, it is pronounced like the English 'z'.
  4. To express 'to (the)...' we use 'au' or 'à la' depending on whether the noun which follows, is masculine or feminine.

Keywords

  • [ou] - sounds like the [ou] in 'nous', meaning 'we' in French

  • Je vais - French verb meaning 'I go', or 'I am going'

  • Il, elle va - French verb meaning 'he, she goes' or 'he, she is going'

  • Au, à la - preposition ‘à’ meaning to, at combined with ‘le’ or ‘la’ to mean ‘to the’ and ‘at the’
