Key learning points
- ne ... pas, ne ... rien, and ne ... jamais all wrap around the auxiliary verb in the perfect tense.
- ne ... personne is different to other negatives in the past tense. Personne comes after the past participle.
- Present and perfect tenses can be usefully combined to talk about sporting personalities, achievements and events.
Keywords
Negation - two elements e.g. ne ... pas around the main verb expressing negative meaning
Ne ... personne - not anyone, no one
Common misconception
The negative structure ne ... personne is formed the same way as ne ... pas and ne ... jamais in the perfect tense.
Personne goes after the past participle instead of after the auxiliary verb. Careful study and practice is required to master this structure.
