Key learning points
- Being able to ask questions in different tenses, as well as answer them, is key to successful communication.
- Using qui, que, où and quand in relative clauses provides more information and adds complexity.
- [qu] sounds like 'question' or 'quatre', [en/an] sound like 'enfant' and [e] sounds like 'je'.
Keywords
Relative clause - adds information about the noun in the main clause
Relative pronoun - a pronoun that introduces a relative clause e.g. qui, que
Common misconception
The relative pronouns 'qui' and 'que' can be used interchangeably to translate 'that', 'which' or 'who/whom'.
Use 'qui' to introduce a subject-relative clause. Use 'que' to introduce an object-relative clause.
Equipment
Mini whiteboards and pens are useful if possible for the quick check activities.
