Key learning points
- Aller + infinitive is used to say going to do, and simple future is used to say will do.
- Ne … plus is a negative structure which means 'no longer' or 'not anymore' e.g. Mon grand-père ne travaille plus.
- When 'plus' is used in a negative sentence, we do not usually hear the 's'.
- Ne … pas encore means 'not yet' and is used with the perfect tense e.g. je n'ai pas encore fait du ski.
Keywords
Aller + infinitive - 2-verb structure meaning 'going to + infinitive'
Simple future - 1-verb future tense meaning 'will + verb'
Negation - makes a word, phrase or sentence negative, typically using words like 'not' in English, or the two elements ne …pas in French
Common misconception
When saying 'plus' always pronounce the s.
'Plus' can mean plus or more. Then, the s should be pronounced. However, 'plus' can also mean no longer as part of the negative phrase 'ne ... plus'. When used in this way, the s is silent.
