Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Places change over time and we can investigate this change in a variety of ways.
  2. People have different opinions about a place and whether it is changing for the better or worse.
  3. Discussing views about change can help identify themes such as environment, services, travel and transport, pollution.

Common misconception

Children may assume that all change involves places becoming urbanised or developed.

Show children examples of areas that have been re-greened.

Keywords

  • Fact - A fact is a statement about something that can be proven to be true.

  • Evidence - Evidence is a fact or piece of information that helps to prove that something is or is not true.

This lesson is based on the book 'Window' by Jeannie Baker. It would be nice to share this with the children before the lesson as pre-teaching.
