The growth of communism in China

I can analyse the events of the Chinese Civil War.

Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. The Nationalist Party (KMT) ruled China in 1945, but was challenged by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
  2. China experienced a civil war lasting from 1946-49.
  3. The CCP emerged victorious from the Chinese Civil War.
  4. Both the KMT and CCP received foreign support.
  5. At times, both the KMT and CCP ignored US and Soviet attempts to control them.

Common misconception

The CCP and KMT were under Soviet and US control.

Both sides in the Chinese Civil War were able to resist attempts by foreign powers to control their actions, such as the KMT in 1946 and CCP in 1949.
