Common misconception
When describing the partitioning of a number, children may mix the parts and the whole.
Reinforce the stem sentence, ___ is the whole, ___ is a part and ___ is a part highlighting, the whole and each part using gestures.
In the video, the part-part-whole model has been referred to as a part-whole model. We recommend using part-part-whole when describing additive structures. We use part-whole when describing fractional relationships between a part and a whole.
