- 3 tens are equal to 30, so 30 divided into groups of 10 is equal to 3
- 3 tens are equal to 30, so 30 divided into 10 groups is equal to 3 in each group.

Common misconception
Children misunderstanding the difference between partitive and quotative division when discussing the problems.
Although they will result in the correct answers, the calculation itself will not accurately reflect the problem. Ensure children initially describe each problem and represent it visually so that they can see whether they are grouping or sharing.
As mentioned, have 10 times table charts available for children so that they can focus of identifying which facts they need to use, rather than being fully dependent on fluency or using larger numbers of counters at this early stage.
