Common misconception
Children can find it difficult to see if the four parts are equal, particularly when they are presented in different orientations rather than horizontal and vertical lines.
Allow children to handle practical objects and cut-outs of shapes that have been divided into quarters so they can rotate them and see them in different orientations.
