Common misconception
Children may get confused with the vocabulary when we say, for example, zero point one two rather than zero point twelve. They may also confuse how we write, for example, 32 hundredths.
We say zero point one two to show that there is one tenth and two hundredths. 32 hundredths is composed of 30 hundredths - this is the same as 3 tenths and we have 2 more hundredths so 32 hundredths is written 0.32
Ensure that children are fluent with their times-tables or have access to scaffolds to avoid overload. Make this practical where possible to support children with their unitising. Also ensure children are secure with knowing that there are ten hundredths in one tenth.
