Lesson details
Key learning points
- When you don't cross a boundary, only one digit changes when you count in 10s, 100s and 1,000s
- When you count across a boundary, two or more digits will change.
- Unitising when counting can help when crossing boundaries.
Keywords
Multiple - A multiple is the result of multiplying a number by an integer (not by a fraction).
Common misconception
Pupils struggle to count over the boundaries for multiples of ten thousand and one hundred thousand.
Ensure children focus on the number of thousands they have within the number. This should effectively be the same as counting in ones over tens and hundreds boundaries, with the exception of the unit changing from ones to thousands.
