Common misconception
For some questions in this lesson, there is more than one possible answer, but all may not provide the solution to the problem posed. Pupils may give the first (incorrect) answer that they find.
For the second task, encourage pupils to distinguish between questions that only have one solution and those that have multiple solutions. Modelling your thinking throughout the second learning cycle is key to supporting pupils to access the task.
Throughout the lesson, encourage pupils to write the values of each bar on the bar graphs. This can help manage the cognitive load they will experience in trying to hold this information to successfully answer questions.
