Lesson details
Key learning points
- The minute hand moves around the full circle in one hour

- Between the hours on the clock face the scale also shows 5 minutes
Keywords
Minutes past - A way of expressing how many minutes have gone by since the last o’clock time.
Common misconception
When representing the time, pupils do not always remember that both the minute and the hour hand have a role to play when showing any given time - often leaving the hour hand in the o'clock position.
Lots of examples and non-examples are shown in Cycle 2 of the slide deck to tackle this misconception. However, practice makes perfect. Give frequent quickfire opportunities outside of the Maths lesson for pupils to show times on mini clocks.
