Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Apps can be used to record performance data
  2. Monitoring performance data can help identify positive and negative trends

Keywords

  • Data - Data are a collection of information.

  • Average - An average is a single number expressing the central or typical value in a set of data; the mode, the median, and the mean.

Common misconception

Pupils may think that improvement comes from choosing the maximum options for training straight away.

In order to protect the body and give it time to adjust/grow, coaches will gradually increase the intensity of a training programme. This helps to prevent injury to the athlete.

To help you plan your year 9 maths lesson on: Sports coaching, download all teaching resources for free and adapt to suit your pupils' needs...

You could consider asking the PE department to record data for pupils during PE lessons that could then be analysed using the techniques covered in this lesson.
