Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. We all have a different role in our family.
  2. The adults in families have different roles to the children.
  3. Family roles are important for keeping everyone safe and happy.
  4. It is not only parents/carers who can look after children.

Keywords

  • Family - the people we live with and may be related to

  • Role - the things we do to help other people

Common misconception

Only adults have a role in families.

Some roles only adults can do, some roles children can do by themselves, some roles adults and children can do together.

Use words such as 'mum' and 'dad' thoughtfully. Many children do not have both and mother and father, although most do. Consider also using words such as 'parent' and 'carer' whenever you are generalising.
