Season - Seasons are periods of similar weather. In the UK, there are four seasons (spring, summer, autumn and winter).
Winter - Winter is the coldest season of the year. It is between autumn and spring.
Deciduous - Trees that lose their leaves once a year are deciduous.
Evergreen - Trees and bushes that do not lose their leaves in winter are evergreen.
Observe - To observe is to look very closely and use other senses too.
Common misconception
It always snows in winter.
Explanation including different kinds of weather that the pupils may experience in winter.
Create an interactive display by bringing in berries, fallen bare twigs, holly leaves and other seasonal items for pupils to touch, smell and observe. Task B is best completed as a walk. If this is not possible, then there are videos online that pupils can watch to observe signs of winter.
