Key learning points

  1. Information questions start with a question word and have more information in the answer than yes/no.
  2. The questions words ¿cuánto?, ¿quién? and ¿cuál? mean how much, who and which.
  3. ¿Cuánto?, ¿quién? and ¿cuál? agree for number; they change spelling when referring to plural persons or things.

Keywords

  • ¿cuánto? - question word meaning ‘how much’

  • ¿quién? - question word meaning ‘who’

  • ¿cuál? - question word meaning ‘which’

  • Information question - question starting with a wh- word that has more information in the answer than yes/no

Common misconception

Cuál is used as in English, followed by a noun.

In Spanish, cuál is never followed by a noun.

The extended writing task is differentiated with two versions of a checklist; teachers will know for their pupils how to ensure that pupils are suitably challenged or supported to produce their best work in this task.
