Key learning points

  1. The indefinite article is used to introduce a noun
  2. The singular definite article in Spanish is 'el' with masculine nouns and 'la' with feminine nouns

Keywords

  • Singular definite article - the word ‘the’ that comes before a noun e.g. ‘the book’

  • El - the masculine singular definite article meaning ‘the’

  • La - the feminine singular definite article meaning ‘the’

Common misconception

The definite article 'the' translates as 'el' in Spanish and it can be used with singular nouns, both masculine and feminine.

There are two words for 'the' with singular nouns. The masculine singular definite article 'el' and the feminine singular definite article is 'la'.

The teacher might want to ask students to describe their own town/city or village. This could be done in a writing activity (poster) and then followed up by a presentation from each student.
