Key learning points
- Identifying sound-spelling links can help you with listening and reading in Spanish and completing dictation tasks.
- The sound-spelling correspondence [que] sounds like 'porque' and [qui] like 'equipo'.
- If Spanish words ending in -n, -s or a vowel have final-syllable stress an accent on the final vowel shows this.
- You can form answers to questions in Spanish by converting 2nd person language into 1st person language.
Keywords
Dictation - language-learning or testing activity where students write down what they hear
Final-syllable stress - pronouncing the final syllable more heavily than other syllables in a word
1st person - form of pronouns and verbs used to refer to 'I' or 'we'
2nd person - form of pronouns and verbs used to refer to 'you' or 'you all'
Common misconception
When answering questions, I can use the verb in the question to start my answer.
You can start your answer using the question verb but it's important to not copy the question word-for-word. If questions use 2nd person verbs, you need to change them to 1st person, changing 'you' verbs into 'I' or 'we' forms.
