Keywords
Root word - the base word from which other words are formed often by adding prefixes or suffixes
Prefix - a letter or group of letters added to the start of a root word to change its meaning
Common misconception
Every word with a prefix will have a root word that is recognisable, such as 'stroy' in 'destroy'.
Some words have roots that we will not recognise or no longer use. Recognising the prefix can still help to spell and understand the word.
