Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. People may have similar and different ideas about the most important feature of a place.
  2. Real and relevant questions from people help geographers find out what others want to know about a place.
  3. Geographers add captions or labels to photographs to share information and opinions about places.
  4. Geographers might talk about the evidence they have collected to find out what others think.

Common misconception

Ground photos can only be taken close to the ground.

They can also be taken at eye level (if you are lying on the floor, sitting down or standing up). They all count as ground level photos.

Keywords

  • Ground level photograph - A ground level photograph is a picture of an object or place taken from the ground.

  • Label - A label is a word or phrase added to a map, a photograph or a diagram to identify a feature.

  • Aerial photograph - An aerial photograph is a picture of an object or place that has been taken from above.

You can replace the photographs of important places around school with your own photos of your school.
