Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: moving quickly, being ready on our toes and exploding with speed are vital defensive skills in all scenarios.
  2. Think: knowing when, where and why to use each defensive skill requires careful decision making to prevent an attack.
  3. Feel: as the situation in the game changes, showing self motivation to improve is important for our team to succeed.
  4. Connect: suggesting ways for our team to improve and supporting our teammates throughout the games shows respect.

Keywords

  • Defensive skills - special moves or abilities you use to try to stop the opposition scoring

  • Scenario - a made-up situation that helps decide what happens next

  • Prevent - making sure the other team can't win by stopping them from scoring

Common misconception

Pupils are deflated and lack self-motivation if their team does not have possession of the ball.

Get pupils to think carefully about the tactics and strategies that can be used to prevent the attack from scoring and help the defensive team regain possession.
