Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Move: when passing, swing the ball across the body using both hands, following through in the direction of the pass.
  2. Move: to support the ball carrier, stay close and slightly behind at an angle to be able to run on to the pass.
  3. Think: reflecting on our performance and discussing tactics can help create more attacking opportunities in the game.
  4. Feel: encouraging your teammates when they drop the ball, or make a bad pass, demonstrates excellent integrity
  5. Connect: playing by the rules consistently shows respect for ourselves and our opponents.

Keywords

  • Pass - transferring the ball from one player to another

  • Attack - trying to score points or goals

  • Tactics - a carefully planned set of actions that are used by a team or an individual to achieve a certain goal

Common misconception

Pupils think they can pass the ball forward. Pupils get confused with the meaning of passing the ball backwards and think that means passing over their head, rather then in relation to their attack.

Remind pupils of the rule that passes must go laterally or backwards, so the player receiving must not go ahead of the player in possession of the ball.
