Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Health involves physical, mental and social well–being.
  2. Fitness is the ability to meet the demands of the environment.
  3. Being fit does not automatically mean you are healthy. Conversely, a person can be healthy without being considered fit.

Keywords

  • Health - a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, not merely the absence of disease or infirmity

  • Fitness - the ability to meet the demands of the environment

  • Exercise - a form of physical activity done to maintain or improve health and/or fitness; it is not competitive sport

  • Performance - the execution of an action or the ability to achieve a task effectively and efficiently

  • Emotional health - can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community

Common misconception

Thinking that being physically fit means someone is automatically healthy.

Explain that just because someone is appears physically fit doesn't mean they may have good emotional or social health.
