Lesson details

Key learning points

  1. Data is factual information gathered about the context being studied.
  2. Analysing social-cultural trends to identify what ethical issues are present in sport.
  3. Data can be presented as numbers or graphs.

Keywords

  • X axis - the horizontal axis on a bar or line graph

  • Y axis - the vertical axis on a bar or line graph

  • Pie chart - a circular graph divided into sectors, each representing a proportion of the whole

  • Bar chart - a chart or graph that presents categorical data with rectangular bars with heights or lengths proportional to the values that they represent

Common misconception

Students can often confuse the x and y axis and therefore not read the correct x axis information.

On a bar or line graphs students should get into the habit of physically going along the bottom to read the information along the x axis.
